Yes yes, very 'Brechtian' and all that. It's also one of those films where there isn't a sympathetic or likable character throughout. I loved the end sequence from a cinematic point of view, even though it was just so bleak and heartless.

Luckily for me the library had both The Idiots and Manderlay available soooo fucked up depressing Tuesday evening here we come! (Is there any other kind?)

Until you've watched Dancer in the Dark, you don't know bleak... go watch it: I loved it, but it nearly killed me too - sob!
