Tora! Tora! Tora!

Tora! is an interesting experiment because it was directed by both American and Japanese filmakers. It's an attempt at making a factual film of the Pearl Harbour bombings and the events and motivations leading up it. Richard Fleischer directed the American side and the Japanese side of the story was directed Kinji Fukasaku best known for Battle Royale. It's an interesting take because it gives a fairly unbiased view on proceedings throughout the film. I do find the American acting slightly too cliched and slightly silly but it's not bad. The real draw of the film is the final half when the bombings take place which I would personally rank as the best film war-battle thingey ever. Some of the scenes with the Japanese planes are also shot fantastically.

And that's it for tonight.
