Virtual Anatomy: Some stuff about lungs, flu viruses. breathing and smoking

So having read about the respiratory system a bit more, I'm stull slightly confused as to how the virus can actually damage the lungs. In order to sort of solve this problem I've had a look at how tar smoke from cigarettes affects lungs. Don't smoke kids! Only do it if your a) a bad-ass or b) if your some troubled artist or musician. I am neither. Unfortunately I think I might have been on the wrong track. But I understand now, In order to convey the message I want then I might have to 'Fantastic Voyage' the sequence a little bit. If you know what I mean, it's still gonna be factual though ;)
